DroidCon in a nutshell

This post comes a tiny bit late, but I’d like to let you know that we had two very interesting and also pretty busy days at DroidCon, Berlin, last week. You can find a small set of pictures here (by us) and a lot of pictures covering the whole event here (by Nico Gulden).

The overall organization was very good, very professional, everything went smoothly. The location was top-notch, and the event was well-visited. 200-something people at the barcamp on day one, 300 at the real conference on day two. A friendly, open, communicative atmosphere. Many, many people interested in Android in various forms. It was great to see so many Android enthusiasts gather together.

Our booth setup was excellent. Our direct neighbour was HTC, T-Mobile and Vodafone were around the corner. We didn’t have enough space to use the rollup, but the rest was very well received. Feedback was particularly good regarding the poster and the Swiss red robot icon. People even wanted to buy our t-shirts. Might become a new business model. ;) Lots of interest in the Toradex and NIMble devices. Also lots of interest in the Swiss chocolate. :)

My talk went ok. As usual, I didn’t like it, but Daniel and Martin seemed to, and the rest of the audience asked a lot of questions, so people obviously listened.

A big thank-you to the DroidCon organizers and visitors. Hope to see you all at DroidCon 2010!

Mobile platform poll on java.net

You might want to take a look at this poll regarding the most powerful and promising mobile platform. It took place on java.net, Sun’s own development site. Guess which platform came out 1st, with more votes than J2ME and the iPhone combined. :)

Dear Open Handset Alliance colleagues and Android(tm) project teams,

Given the current global reluctance to travel due to H1N1 and the economic climate, there’s been a resounding feedback to reschedule the first Noser Academy for Android originally scheduled for September 3-4.
We’ve got several potential formats and dates on the table for the Academy and will post these as soon as they are confirmed. Meanwhile, if you are interested in Android education, please consider our one-day training at /ch/open.

Best,

Daniel Bruengger

Noser Commercialization for Android

Launch

Dear Open Handset Alliance colleagues and Android™ project teams,

It is an exciting time for Android and for all of us who have had the opportunity to be a part of its inception and start-up. And we are all pleased to see the ever increasing number of Android applications and devices being launched around the world.

With all this activity and rapid development, our customers and colleagues are telling us there is a need for an additional platform for face-to-face information exchange, hands-on training, and more networking across the global Android value chain. Application development, service integration, platform porting and customization create a demand for added support not currently available on the forums or through public archives.

In the spirit of the OHA, Noser Engineering, would like to invite you to join their Android Commercialization team, and other OHA members in Zurich, Switzerland September 3rd through 4th for the Noser Academy for Android.

Approximately 50 members of the top Android project teams around the globe will meet at the spectacular Castle Sihlberg in Zurich to explore various opportunities and overcome barriers to market. Teams will join in group workshops or reserve optional break-out sessions with the Noser Commercialization for Android team – co-contributors to the Android Core Libraries.

The program is quite comprehensive – yet still open – and already features speakers from several fellow OHA-members who were actively involved in developing the Android software stack.

Should you have a specific request or idea, or should you want to contribute a talk or a demo, we would like to hear from you. We value your participation and feedback and look forward to hearing from you as to how we can work together to shape the Noser Academy for Android now and in the future.

Best,
Daniel
